MAN Nutzfahrzeuge agrees a deal with staff representatives to secure the future of its Plauen site
Cathodic dip painting (CDP) for NEOPLAN buses to be introduced in Starachowice, Poland.
MAN Nutzfahrzeuge and staff representatives in Plauen have signed an agreement to introduce the CDP treatment of NEOPLAN buses and to secure the future of its Plauen site. According to the agreement, bus chassis will in future be manufactured at the site in Starachowice, Poland, and treated with high-quality anti-corrosion protection (CDP = cathodic dip painting). The bus chassis will then be transported to Plauen, where further assembly work will take place on the bodywork and interior fittings.
The agreement also provides for the expansion of production at the Plauen site in order to offset the reduced real net output ratio. Furthermore, compulsory redundancies are ruled out until 2016; fixed-term employment contracts will be extended until at least 31 May 2011. Trainees employed to help cover the company’s own requirements will be given at least a twelve-month contract once they pass their final examination. The agreement also promises around 18 million euros worth of investment in the Plauen site between now and 2016.
“From the very beginning, we said that we wanted to hold on to Plauen and our highly qualified employees based there. The future of the site was never in doubt. Our discussions were geared solely towards securing an important product improvement for the high quality NEOPLAN buses in the form of CDP treatment. With the measures we have agreed, this is now guaranteed. At the same time, we have ensured that, as a bus production site, Plauen is fit for the future”, explains Lars Wrebo, Director of Production at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge.
