HyFLEET: CUTE hydrogen project
The HyFLEET: CUTE project is an international demonstration project for local public transport in Europe. Sponsored by the European Commission, it is being realised by 31 partners from industry, science and politics with a view to spurring on hydrogen technology.
In the course of the project, which is set to run for four years, future-orientated drive concepts in city buses and technologies and processes for producing and distributing hydrogen will be demonstrated.
MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG is stepping up their commitment to alternative drive systems and is a member of the EU project, which started in early 2006. In the next two years a total of 14 two-axle MAN Lion’s City buses will be supplied to the Berlin Transport Authority BVG with hydrogen combustion engines and tested there in practical operation until the end of the project in early 2009.
Even now MAN's hydrogen combustion engines emit pollutants at levels considerably below all future EU exhaust-gas limits already fixed – and even satisfy the strict EEV standard with ease.
With the information gained from the project this new drive technology can take a further step in development and prove its suitability for practice in day-to-day use. MAN even expects it to ultimately achieve series-production maturity in the next few years.
