A clean solution – the MAN PM-KAT®

Modern diesel soot filters (surface filters)reduce particulate emissions by up to 99%. However, the innovative MAN PM-KAT® filter is currently the only system which is also able to effectively reduce the smallest particulates relevant for fine dust. The separation quota of the entire mass is up to 50%, the separation quote of the number of smallest particulates is over 60-90% (see diagram).

For this performance with a clean edge the MAN PM-KAT® won the renowned BDI environmental price for industry for 2005/2006. The jury made up of leading personalities from the worlds of business, science, politics and environmental associations awarded the prize in the category for “environmentally compatible products“. This award means that the MAN PM-KAT® has automatically been nominated as the German contribution for the European environmental prize.

Particulate separation is effected by specially triggered turbulence during the deflection of exhaust gases in the separator and their passage through the sintered metal fabric.

The dissolution of the particulates retained in the fabric is the result of a permanent chemical reaction brought about with the aid of the NO2 formed in the oxidising catalytic converter.
As a result, the MAN PM-KAT® is self-regenerating. This means that the particulate filter does not clog up. The MAN PM-KAT® is absolutely maintenance-free.
