Environmental protection – a global challenge
As one of the leading international manufacturers of trucks and buses MAN Nutzfahrzeuge is rising to the big global challenge – relief from pollutants, for the environment, saving fossil fuel reserves and safeguarding the mobility of tomorrow.
In production MAN uses the latest technologies to save resources and avoids any risks to man and the environment as far as possible.

Beside constant optimisation of the conventional diesel engine we are developing and testing alternative drive concepts including solutions with natural gas, hydrogen, fuel cells, diesel-electric drive and hybrid technologies. Alongside this modern and innovative solutions for cleaning the exhaust gases of trucks and buses are being devised.
Security for the future – base technology for Euro 5 and beyond
A few years ago MAN was the first European commercial vehicle manufacturer to select cooled exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) as a basic element in its engine strategy. This solution already made it possible then to comply with the Euro 3 limits without any increase in fuel consumption.
EGR technology
is also the basis for our Euro 4 engines.
The advantages of EGR are: no additional agents, no effect on space or weight in the vehicle, zero maintenance requirement and robust, economical engines.

Today we are the only commercial vehicle manufacturer able to offer all Euro 4 engines up to 480 hp with a solution comprising common-rail injection, cooled exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) and the
MAN PM-KAT®
particulate filter. This filter was awarded the renowned BDI Environment Prize for Industry 2005/2006 in the "environmentally compatible products" category.
Our engines designed for compliance with the coming
Euro 5
regulations have been on the roads since spring 2006. They feature SCR technology under the name of
MAN AdBlue®.
This solution ensures both low consumption and a reduction of up to 90 % in emissions of oxides of nitrogen.
With its basic EGR technology the MAN Nutzfahrzeuge Group is already well prepared for the future US standard EPA 2010 and for
Euro 6
, which may be valid as soon as 2012.
